Vested in Hope: Reflections - the second edition of our annual campaign is a tribute to the strength, resilience, and multifaceted lives of women who face a breast cancer diagnosis.

This year, in partnership with Living Beyond Breast Cancer, we honor two incredible advocates who not only live with breast cancer but also uplift and empower others through education, advocacy, and community support.

Reflections goes beyond survival; it's about how these women see themselves, embracing the many roles they play in life—mothers, leaders, friends, and advocates-despite the impact of their diagnosis. This campaign is a celebration of their journey, their courage, and their determination to help others. Through their stories, we shine a light on the power of self-identity, community, and the importance of spreading knowledge and hope.

Join us as we continue to be Vested in Hope, sharing powerful stories with the opportunity to give back and create lasting change.

DIAGNOSED WITH STAGE IV TRIPLE-NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER IN 2022

Michelle, also known as The Fearless Warrior, is a dedicated mother of two from New York. At 36 she was diagnosed with Stage I triple-negative breast cancer, during the pandemic, and in 2022, her journey took a challenging turn when her cancer returned as Stage IV. Determined to transform her pain into purpose, Michelle founded The Fearless Warrior Project in 2021, a platform focused on empowering others through adversity. As a certified mental health coach and death doula, Michelle's mission is to help individuals heal from emotional and mental trauma, while guiding cancer warriors to embrace their fears and advocate for themselves. She educates on patient rights, clinical trial options, and vital resources for those facing cancer.

Often referred to as "Superwoman with a Pink Cape", Michelle is a voice for the voiceless, with her greatest motivation being the legacy she is building for her children.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE FEARLESS WARRIOR PROJECT
“I can't change what my life story has become and what has been put on my plate, but I can rearrange the display, how it's fed to myself and how it's fed to the world.”
YOUR STORY OF TURNING PAIN INTO PURPOSE THROUGH THE FEARLESS WARRIOR PROJECT IS INCREDIBLY INSPIRING. HOW HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH BREAST CANCER SHAPED YOUR MISSION TO EMPOWER OTHERS AND CAN YOU SPEAK ABOUT THE PROJECT?
The Fearless Warrior Project was designed and created to build legacy. Being diagnosed at 36, my children were 13 and 3, I wanted to create a legacy for them. This is not how I saw my life becoming but I decided to pivot and make it my own. I had to think bigger, bigger than myself. I had to get out of the mindset of “why me” and focus on the “why not me?” I took this experience as an opportunity to be impactful. The Fearless Warrior Project's focus is to empower others of the fearless warrior within themselves. To encourage others to find the strength to advocate for themselves, without fear. Be determined, be fearless and be unapologetically themselves.
OUR CAMPAIGN IS CALLED REFLECTIONS. WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR TODAY, HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF? HAS THAT CHANGED SINCE YOUR DIAGNOSIS?
When I look in the mirror today, I see a person that I've always been but never poured into. One thing I can say, and I thank cancer for, is focusing me to find the person that I was always meant to be. We get distracted at times, being a mom, working, and we move away from our dreams, the desires we wanted to grow up to be. It forced me to realize time is not promised. If I wanted to be the best version of myself, I had to do it now. What do you want your legacy to look like and what are you doing about it?
WHAT ROLE DID LIVING BEYOND BREAST CANCER PLAY IN YOUR LIFE?
LBBC has been so influential in my journey. It not only helped me create my own organization, but also connected me with other organizations and to build a community. They've given me opportunities outside of being this person that's living with this illness and put me in spaces where my journey and my story can be heard.
Often times this community is spoken to by doctors and researchers and they all went to school to study about what we live with, but it's very different when you speak to an actual individual, living with this illness, about their experience. Their knowledge of it, their passion for it and how it affects them.
“Our scars make us stronger, but also it's about finding beauty in our scars.”

“I'm a writer. I'm a mother. I'm a grandmother, I'm a friend, I'm a sister, I'm an auntie, I'm a cousin. I try not to put cancer first, but in a way sometimes you have to, to take care of yourself.”
AS A RETIRED NURSING TECHNICIAN AND ADVOCATE FOR FACTUAL WELLNESS INFORMATION, HOW HAS YOUR MEDICAL BACKGROUND SHAPED YOUR APPROACH TO YOUR OWN BREAST CANCER JOURNEY?
My medical background was very helpful because when I worked, I worked because I wanted to take care people and patients. I'm happy I was always able to give patients that I took care of proper information or direct them to sources where they could get that information. It also helped me understand what's going on with me, the physical part of me and the holistic part, as I went through my journey.
OUR CAMPAIGN IS CALLED REFLECTIONS. WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR TODAY, HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF? HAS THAT CHANGED SINCE YOUR DIAGNOSIS?
When I look in the mirror, I see myself as strong and resilient, not the same person that I used to be. Going through breast cancer, I've changed. I'm a different, however, I think I'm a better me, a stronger me. I didn't realize I was as strong as I was until I had to go through this situation.
WHAT ROLE DID LIVING BEYOND BREAST CANCER PLAY IN YOUR LIFE?
I was connected to LBBC through a social worker at my hospital. She suggested that I go sign up to get information. At first, I wanted to advocate, but I wasn't strong enough yet. Then they helped me become an LBBC Leadership Advocate and now I'm able to share with others because that's what I do, I like to share information to help other people.
